Water & Sanitation

Rotary International is known throughout the World as the catalyst for eliminating polio from the face of the earth; Rotarians collectively have given more than 500 million dollars towards this project. The second area of focus for Rotarians is to bring clean water to the more than 800 million people on the planet that do not have access to clean water. In 2013 Las Vegas Southwest Rotary (“LVSWR”) and District 5300 embarked on a water and sanitation project in Burkina Faso, Africa with OneDrop Foundation. The goals of this project were (1) to bring clean water and sanitation in a comprehensive 5-year plan that would insure that the project would continue forever once OneDrop and Rotary turned this project over to the locals that benefit and (2) to find a non-profit organization that could partner with Rotary Clubs throughout the world on water projects. The start of this project in 2013 was so successful that LVSWR and District 5300 committed to a second 5-year project with similar goals in Mali, Africa. The second goal has also been met since the Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group (“WASRAG”) has signed a formal agreement with OneDrop Foundation to become a Rotary recognized partner.
